Purchased & Installed Office 2024, But Word Still Shows Office 2021? Fix It Here
I bought and downloaded Microsoft Office 2024 for installation on one PC. When I opened Word, it still indicated Office 2021 instead of 2024.
I clicked on Switch and saw that both editions, 2021 and 2024, were displayed. I chose Office 2024, which was already pre-selected, but when I created a Word document and checked for my account, it still indicated Office 2021.

Why Is Office Still Showing 2021 Instead of 2024?
- Old Office version not fully removed
- Account signed into Office 2021 license
- Multiple Office versions conflicting on the same PC
Solution: Remove Office 2021 and Activate Office 2024
Step 1 – Sign Out of Office and Restart Word
- Open Microsoft Word
- Go to File > Account
- Click Sign Out under your Microsoft account
- Close Word
- Restart your computer
- Open Word again and sign in with your Office 2024 account
👉 Now check: File > Account → It should show Office 2024
Step 2 – Uninstall Office 2021 to Avoid Conflicts
Method 1 – Uninstall via Settings
- Press Win + I to open Settings
- Go to Apps > Installed Apps
- Search for Microsoft Office 2021
- Click and select Uninstall
- Restart your PC
Method 2 – Use Microsoft Office Uninstall Tool
If Office 2021 doesn’t uninstall normally:
- Download the official Microsoft Office removal tool
- Run the tool and select Office 2021
- Follow on-screen instructions
- Restart your computer
Step 3 – Check and Activate Office 2024
- Open Microsoft Word
- Go to File > Account
- Under Product Information, confirm it shows Office 2024
If not activated:
- Click Activate
- Sign in with the account linked to your Office 2024 purchase
